Workshops

Are you interested in learning about the fascinating age-old art of mould making?

Come along and spend the day with Tim of Taus Ceramic at his home studio in sunny Kerikeri. Suitable for both beginners and those wanting to hone their mould making skills, this practical workshop will cover the whole process of making a two–piece plaster mould. Students will select a decorative glass bottle, and use boxes to form the mould. Tim covers the different aspects of mould making, demonstrates the process of slipcasting using plaster moulds, enabling students to work the skill into their own future practice. Suitable for both beginners and those with prior experience wanting to hone their skills.

Tim Grocott of Taus Ceramic
Between 2014–2016, Tim had the privilege to work alongside expert mould maker Bruce Yallop at Studio Ceramics, whose career began at Crown Lynn as a teen. This was an invaluable lesson in craftsmanship and precision; learning how to make production moulds and master moulds for commercial applications. Since then, Tim has run has own ceramic studio, specialising in mould making and slip casting – producing cups, vases, hip flasks and chess pieces.
